7th Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) Conference

The Asia-Europe Foundation, together with the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO, Ministry of Education will be co-organising the 7th Asia-Europe Classroom Network (AEC-NET) Conference from 12 – 16 December 2008 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The theme for this year’s conference will be “Achievements, Visibility and Sustainable of the Asia-Europe Classroom Network”.

Accommodations (4 nights), meals, cultural programme and local transportation in relation to the conference will be covered by the co-organisers. Participants are, however, expected to cover their own return airfare from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.


Call for Applications
The 7th AEC-NET Conference is open to all teachers and educators from the ASEM countries who would like to propose, or collaborate in ICT projects designed to promote secondary and high school students in Asia and Europe. To enable them to draw full benefit from the Conference, participants need to:

(a) be proficient in both spoken and written English;
(b) have sufficient knowledge about ICT generally, and ICT applications in learning and training; and
(c) be prepared to share their experiences and ideas on ICT projects and/or propose project ideas.

For applicants who are keen to participate in the Conference, please register here. The application deadline is Tuesday, 30 September 2008. All applicants will be informed on the results of their application sometime after mid October.

AEC Awards for 2007/2008 AEC Projects
To recognise efforts to produce outstanding on-line learning platforms or applications under the AEC framework, the Asia-Europe Foundation will present the AEC Awards to AEC Project Groups that have developed the most outstanding on-line learning platforms/applications at the upcoming Conference. These 2007/2008 AEC Projects were developed last year and completed before the commencement of the 7th Asia-Europe Classroom Network Conference in Malaysia.


The key criteria used to assess the AEC Projects are as follows:

(a) The level of participation and involvement of students in developing the project;
(b) The contribution that the project can make towards advancing intercultural understanding among secondary and high school students of Asia and Europe;
(c) The effective application of ICT tools in promoting collaborative learning; and
(d) The quality of the overall presentation of the project (design and structure).

New AEC Project Proposal for 2008/2009


Citizens of the World
The "Citizens of the World" is an interdisciplinary project which encompasses Culture, Science, History, and Sports. Students will choose well known or famous people from their own country and present them within the categories above to students from another

continent. The final product will be a project website where interviews, quizzes (on different topics like: international policy, business, historical and scientific discoveries) and other educational resources prepared by the participants will be presented.
