Projects submitted for the AESOTOPE were either a scientific experiment or an exhibit/object that could be showcased during the AESOTOPE and at the Le Meraviglie della Scienza ("The Marvels of Science") Exhibition, a major highlight of the Genoa Science Festival 2004.
In general, an AESOTOPE Project was to:

feature an interactive demonstration of the marvels of science that is closely
•
demonstrate the unique natural history of the country (e.g. geology,
flora and fauna);
•
reflect the theme of the Genoa Science Festival 2004. “The Exploration” or the
theme of Genoa as the European Capital of Culture in 2004, “Genoa as the
Capital of the Sea”.
19 out of 32 science proposals submitted by 16 ASEM countries were considered for the AESOTOPE Awards. They were namely:
